NEWS RELEASE

On 01/28/2012, officers of the Johnson City Police Dept. arrested Leslie C. Rose, 48 yoa, of 1806 Galen Dr., Johnson City, TN. The arrest was a result of a road rage incident that occurred at the intersection of S. Roan St. and E. State of Franklin Rd. After a verbal argument with another motorist, Ms. Rose struck the victim’s vehicle, nearly striking the driver who was standing beside her vehicle. A three year old child was inside the victim’s vehicle at the time of the incident. Ms. Rose fled the scene prior to police arrival. A warrant was served on Ms. Rose at the Washington County Detention Center after she was arrested for separate offenses by the Washington County Sheriffs Office. She is charged with two counts of Reckless Endangerment and is being held in lieu of a $20,000 bond.

NEWS RELEASE

On Friday¸ January 27th, 2012, at approx. 9:30 p.m., officers of the Johnson City Police Department arrested Ralph E Cross, 32, of Johnson City and charged him with one count each of TCA (39-17-425) Unlawful Drug Paraphernalia, TCA (39-17-417) Schedule II Drug Violations, TCA (39-16-201) Take Contraband into a Penal Facility. The arrest is the result of a disturbance call and subsequent investigation at 800 W. Market St. Mr. Cross was transported to the Washington County Detention Center for processing where he will be held in lieu of a $7,000 Bond with an arraignment set in Washington County General Sessions Court on January 30th, 2012 at 1:30 p.m.

NEWS RELEASE

On 01/25/12, Investigators with the Johnson City Police Department arrested Nicholas M. Halkowitz, W/M, DOB 07/17/1986 of 3 Honeysuckle Ct., Johnson City, TN, on a charge of Theft of Property over $1,000. The charge stems from an investigation into a theft of a custom cue stick from Numan’s Bar, 225 E Main St., Johnson City. His bond was set at $5,000 and he was scheduled to appear in court Thursday, 01/26/12 at 0900.

In May 2011 the Johnson City Police Department put out a news release notifying businesses that deal with scrap metal and gold that they must comply with the new laws regulating such transactions. Each business dealing with these metals in Johnson City was notified by the police department and each signed documents acknowledging the new laws.

On January 21, 2012, officers of the Johnson City Police Department’s Special Investigations Squad conducted an undercover investigation into the recently enacted laws governing the buying of scrap gold and jewelry. Two persons were arrested as a result of this investigation. Both individuals were employed by the same company and both were cited into Washington County General Sessions Court after being charged with violating laws that regulate the buying of scrap gold and jewelry. The violations pertained particularly to obtaining photo identification of the seller and reporting of the items purchased to the police department.

Businesses currently dealing in this trade are being made aware that the Johnson City Police Department will be conducting future undercover investigations involving scrap metal and gold dealers in an attempt to deter the selling/buying of stolen items.

On 01/24/2012 at 12:36 hours officers of the Johnson City Police Department responded to a report of three male juveniles who had been shoplifting at 112 Sunset Dr. During the course of the investigation, officer discovered that all three juveniles had also shoplifted from several other businesses in the city. In their possession was also found a GPS unit and an HP laptop computer which had been stolen from two separate vehicles in the area where the shoplifting occurred. Owners of both devices were located and the items returned to them. All three juveniles were transported to the Juvenile Detention Center, where they remain in custody without bond, until their court date set for 01/25/2012 at 2:30 P.M.

JOHNSON CITY POLICE DEPARTMENT

NEWS RELEASE

On 1/25/2012, officers with the Johnson City Police Department arrested Angelina Cruzcortes (Hispanic female DOB: 07/21/1986) of 2204 S. Greenwood Dr. Johnson City, TN 37604. The arrest is the result of a child neglect investigation conducted after officers found a five-year-old Hispanic juvenile walking on South Greenwood Drive with no clothing in freezing temperatures. After a brief investigation, the child’s mother was identified and arrested. Cruzcortes is charged with one count of child neglect under subsection (b) of the Tennessee statute for child neglect. She is currently being held in the Washington County Detention Center on a $10,000.00 bond. Her arraignment is scheduled for Thursday January 26 at 1:30 P.M.
